HOW TO UPLOAD USING FTP
These
instructions below are for WS FTP LE.
Download
it here.
When prompted at
installation, select 'student'. On the
following screen, select 'home' and 'personal
use'. This will allow you to use the program in
order to learn FTP.
Once you've
downloaded and installed the program, it's very
easy to upload your website.
|
This
is the main screen. If you have the
'Session Properties' box pop up immediately
when you start the program, close it for
now.
This main
screen has 2 main parts. The left side is
YOUR computer. You should first
find the folder where your webpage files
are stored. You can either type it
into the 'Local System' box, or browse
through the folders (click on the green up
arrow).
When you
are ready, click on 'Connect' at the
bottom. |
|
This
'Session Properties' screen is where you
will put in your FTP details.
1) Click
'New'.
2) In 'Profile Name', type in 'My Website'
(or whatever you want to call it)
3) In the
'Hostname / Address' box, put in the
hostname given in your Account Activation
email.
4) Put
in your FTP Username and Password in the
corresponding boxes. (Do not use
the frontpage username/password)
5) Tick 'Save pwd'.
6) Click 'Apply' at the bottom.
Now press
'OK'. This will connect you to our
server. |
 |
This
is a closer look at the main screen. You
will now see folders on the right side.
These are folders on OUR server. This is the
REMOTE site.
In the
right panel, double-click on the 'httpdocs'
folder. You must upload all your files
into this folder. (Make sure it is NOT
the 'httpSdocs' folder!)
Now, from
the left side (your computer), you will
need to find where your webpage files are
located. Once you have found them,
highlight all the files (click on the
first file in the list, hold down the
SHIFT key and press the 'End' key.
This will highlight all files)
Please
note, if you used FrontPage to create your
website, you MUST upload all the folders as
well (such as 'images').
Now that
your files are highlighted, you are ready
to upload them. Click on the arrow in the
center which is pointing to the right. |
When you are
finished, you can just click on 'Exit' or
'Disconnect' located at the bottom of the screen.
